For this tutorial you will need either Gimp, or Photoshop, Paintool Sai, etc (Any program which allows you to find colour codes).
You will also need to download this custom content: http://www.mediafire.com/download/9gepq44blel3d8k/CC.RAR
Now, like in the image above, use the dropper tool on a light-ish area, then select the square of colour, then find the "HTML notation" number, then copy it.
Next, head into sims, load up CAS, and make a horse. Go to the tab where you can alter the horse's coat. Enter advanced mode.
Once in advanced mode, you'll see a vertical panel with "layers" making up the horses coat. Delete all the layers, there will be one left over that you will not be able to delete. Select the small box with the colour in, on that layer. It will come up with another "window".
Once you have opened up that window, there will be three tabs. Click on the "#" tab.
At the bottom of that tab you will be able to see a box with a code in, labeled "Hex". Delete the code in that box, and paste, by pressing "ctrl" and "v" the code you copied from earlier.
Click the tick, and the colour of your horse should change. It will look strange... but then again, any horse would if it was only one colour!
Next, you will want to create a new layer, then find the first shade marking, it looks like this (I apologize for the poor quality picture) :

There will be three more markings I will be using with similar thumbnails to this, I will be referring them as
"shade marking 01"
"shade marking 02"
"shade marking 03"
"shade marking 01"
"shade marking 02"
"shade marking 03"
Next, like you did with the base layer, click the small box with the colour in, on the layer panel.
Go to the "#" tab and, again, go to the "Hex" box, delete the code in there, and paste the same colour code as you used for the base. Then go to the middle tab, and go down to the slide bar at the bottom, make the colour darker using this. Have a mess around with it, and find the shade you think looks right. This can be changed later on if you are unhappy with it. |
Next, I added the black points on the horse's legs, that is a pretty simple step and I doubt you will need helping through that.
Then I created a new layer, then dragged it so it was above the the base layer, but underneath all other layers. This is the marking I used, you will be able to find this in game. Again, I am sorry for the poor quality pictures. I pasted the code in the Hex box, and changed the shading so it was darker around the shoulder, slightly darker around the neck, and lighter around the head. |
This is what my horse looks like so far:
Now we are going to move onto head detail!
First thing I will be doing is creating new layers, dragging them to the top, and using these markings that comes in-game, and in the cc pack I have uploaded. As this is a bay horse, I will be using a light brown, dark brown, and a black. This is what I have ended up with. Now I am going to do the head shine! First I am starting off with the wester drumlins head shine. I am going to make the colour white, then tone down the opacity so it is just about visible. |
Now for the body shine! All the shine markings will be white (with a slightly brown-ish tint) The markings I will be adding are:
- Two Julie shine markings
- One wester drumlins body shine
-LR coat shine & head shine
-Bear brook head shine
After everything is done, this is the horse I have made :)
I am not the best at making horse coats, and do need some practice, but usually I am happy with the outcome.
